St. Tatiana of Rome
III Century
Little of documented certainty is known about the martyr Tatiana.
Byzantine legends say she was a scion of an eminent family and served as a
deaconess in Rome. She and her father are said to have been tortured and
beheaded c. 225/30, during the reign of Alexander Severus. The Roman
church, which considers the story of her life wholly unreliable, says she
is the same person as St. Martina. The Byzantine church holds her in great
honor, and her head is in Constantinople in the Periblepta church.
