Sts. Sergius and Bacchus

Famous military martyrs. Enormously popular in the mediæval and Byzantine eras, they are now known for a reason which would have astonished earlier generations: the two close friends are frequently cited by gay writers as an example of a same-sex romantic couple. Their vita, however, contains little to suggest this.
