Roma (Gypsies)
The Roma are extremely numerous in Eastern Europe,
and many of them are Orthodox. Unfortunately, ethnic
relations with other believers have often been strained.
The liberation of Romanian Roma held under conditions approximating
American plantation slavery in the XIX Century is a
remarkable story, and one in which the Church leadership generally
seems to have been on the side of freedom.
