Laonikos or Nikolaos Chal(co)condylas, to give
two more of the many variants of the name, was apparently an
imperial ambassador to the court of Murad II, and later wrote
a history of the Ottomans including a remarkable account
of the fall of Constantinople. He also mentions the historical
Dracula, Vlad Tepes.
