Chelandariou

(Serbian HILANDAR)

Serbian monastery on the Holy Mountain, founded (or re-founded) by Sts. Simeon and Savva. Historically, it attracted monks and donors from the other Balkan countries as well as from Serbia. Among its treasures is the wonder-working Tricheirousa Ikon of the Theotokos.
In 2004, the monastery was severely damaged by fire.
