Controversial Russian priest, a converted Jew, murdered by unknown
assailants who may or may not have been
- Two of his friends were also famous and controversial
- Fr. Alexander was universally acknowledged as an outstanding
missionary to the Soviet intelligentsia. However, he was accused of
heretical ecumenism and crypto-Catholicism
by his opponents.
- Fr. Alexander has been proclaimed a saint by the followers of Fr.
Yakunin, a group not recognized as canonical; this did not necessarily
his memory among mainstream Russian Orthodox, and was upsetting to
some of his disciples.
